The Junior Workshop is an integral part of the Drama Club, providing an opportunity for children aged between 7 and 16 years to experience the nervous thrills that are attendant upon performing to audiences drawn from the general public.
Each year the Junior Workshop participates in the New Year Pantomime (2018 Sleeping Beauty) and the Summer Revue,
undertaking acting, singing, dancing and speaking roles in each.
Rehearsals for these events are held at the Village Hall on Monday evenings from 7pm until 8pm. Additional rehearsals may be requested on Thursday evenings as the show date approaches, however we are conscious that schoolwork takes priority and we limit the number of additional rehearsals called.
The workshop membership is limited to a total of 20 children within the 7 to 16 year age group with vacancies arising as the older children progress to the Intermediate Membership level.
In 2017, our younger members staged their own one-act play (Us and Them) as part of our Summer Production.
In 2018, our juniors took part, and received a favourable critique, in the Gimson Festival with the one-act play Stoppit, a local festival of which we are a founder member.
Mindful of the duty of care to be exercised when working with children, the Club operates a Child Protection Policy based upon the guidance issued by the ECC, (Essex County Council) and NODA, (the National Operatic and Dramatic Association).
Whilst at the Hall, the children are under the care and direction of adult club members who are CRB checked, ECC Licensed, Chaperones.
There is an annual Juniors' membership fee, a percentage of which covers insurance.
